Celebrity Baby Stories: Life and the Pursuit of Happiness
Over the past few weeks, I found myself speaking to many different people regarding abortion and for some reason in each of these cases, celebrity abortion stories kept coming up in conversation.
Celebrity abortion stories (or in this case 'choose life' stories) have been topics of interest within the news circuit lately, as numerous famous musicians have come shed light on the topic of abortion with their personal stories regarding abortion. I will post other stories later, but these are some of the beautiful stories of life that I have come across recently in my research and I wanted to share them with all of you.

Last week, international singing phenomenon Susan Boyle revealed that doctors had told her mother to abort her, because they thought the pregnancy was too risky.
The 49-year old Scotland native skyrocketed to stardom in April 2009, after appearing on the television program, Britain’s Got Talent. Susan emerged on the show as a plain-looking Scotswoman, but went on to shock the world with her powerful rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical version of Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables.
In her autobiography, The Woman I Was Born To Be, Boyle reveals that doctors recommended that her mother, Bridget Boyle, terminate the pregnancy as they suspected physical complications. Susan’s mother was already the mother of eight children, but rejected the Doctor’s advice as “unthinkable” because she was a “devout Catholic.”
When Boyle was born by emergency c-section, doctors did not offer a huge congratulations on the birth of "A beautiful baby girl.” Boyle wrote that doctors took a rather dismissive view of her life – especially when they suspected she had brain damage due to a deprivation of oxygen. The doctors told Boyle's mother, “It’s probably best to accept Susan will never be anything. Susan will never come to anything so don’t expect too much of her.”
Susan said, “What they didn’t know was that I am a bit of a fighter, and I’ve been trying all my life to prove them wrong.” And Boyle has done just that.
Boyle released her first album “I Dreamed a Dream” on November 23, 2009, and quickly sold 9 million copies in six weeks, making it the number one selling album for that year. The Guinness Book of World Records also recognized Boyle as the number one female artist in the UK with the fastest selling debut album.

Andrea Bocelli, Italian pop, opera, and classical singer, revealed earlier this year that doctors recommended his mother abort him, after she experienced an attack of appendicitis, making it likely that her son would be born with a disability. Bocelli was born completely blind.
Bocelli says that he hopes that the story of his brave mother will “encourage any mothers that find themselves in difficult situations, in those moments when life is complicated, to save the life of their baby.”

In January of this year, college football star Tim Tebow (now back-up quarterback for the Denver Broncos) revealed that doctors recommended abortion to his mother after she became sick during her mission work in the Philippines.
Tebow’s story was featured in a 30-second ad during the nationally televised, Super Bowl. According to one study, 92.6 million Americans watched the ad. Of those who identified themselves as in favor of abortion, four percent said they were led to "personally reconsider [their] opinion about abortion" after watching Tebow and his mother Pam tell their story in the ad.

In 2007, Jamie Lynn Spears the 16-year-old younger sister of Britney Spears made headlines, when she announced that she was pregnant.
Many people were enraged by the news that the Disney Channel star was 16 years old and pregnant, but she gained the respect of many at the same time. As a teen, she could have easily aborted her child and no one would have ever known. Instead she chose to keep her child and said, "I put myself in this position, an adult position, so I have to act like an adult and take responsibility for what I did."
When asked about abortion she said, "I think my whole life I would have to live with knowing what I did or what I didn't do." Spears also discouraged sex before marriage saying, "I definitely don't think it's something you should do; it's better to wait. But I can't be judgmental because it's a position I put myself in."
All I have is respect for this girl! I definitely wasn't as brave and mature as she is, when I was 16 years old. She could have had an abortion and no one would have ever known. She may have saved herself some of the public outrage and humiliation when people were attacking her for being "16 and pregnant". I cannot judge her for being "16 and pregnant" as others have, all I have is respect for this brave young woman who chose to give her baby life and try to be the best mom she can.

Lastly, one of the most powerful stories that I have encountered recently is of American heiress and reality television personality Kourtney Kardashian and her encounter with an unplanned pregnancy.
In 2009, Kardashian found out that she was pregnant and was faced with the decision of whether to give her child life or to abort the baby. Kardashian said in an interview with People Magazine, "I definitely thought about it long and hard, about if I wanted to keep the baby or not, and I wasn't thinking about adoption. I can't even tell you how many people just say, 'Oh, get an abortion.' Like it's not a big deal."
Confused and concerned, Kardashian discussed abortion with her physician, and then headed to the Internet to do further research. She said, "I looked online, and I was sitting on the bed hysterically crying, reading these stories of people who felt so guilty from having an abortion. I was reading these things of how many people are traumatized by it afterwards."
Through her research, Kardashian said she started to realize that abortion was not an option. "I was just sitting there crying, thinking, 'I can't do that. And I felt in my body, this is meant to be. God does things for a reason, and I just felt like it was the right thing that was happening in my life."
Kardashian strongly stated, "For me, all the reasons why I wouldn't keep the baby were so selfish: It wasn't like I was raped, it's not like I'm 16. I'm 30 years old, I make my own money, I support myself, I can afford to have a baby. And I am with someone who I love, and have been with for a long time."
She ended by saying, "My doctor told me there is nothing you will ever regret about having the baby, but he was like, 'You may regret not having the baby.' And I was like: That is so true. And it just hit me. I got so excited."
Kardashian welcomed her beautiful baby boy into the world on December 14th 2009 and named him, Mason Dash Disick.
There are other stories of celebrities who chose abortion and now struggle with tremendous grief and pain over this.

I wanted to share all of these stories with you because they are witnesses of hope to me. If Susan Boyle, Andrea Bocelli, or Tim Tebow's mothers had listened to Doctors, the world would not have the gift of their presence. We would not have Andrea Bocelli or Susan Boyle's beautiful music to listen to and we wouldn't have an entertaining and gifted Heinsman Trophy winner in Tebow.
On the other side of the spectrum, Jamie Lynn Spears and Kortney Kardashian could have chosen abortion and saved themselves the "public analysis" of their choices. They could have chose abortion and gone on living their "hollywood lifestyle" and no one would have ever known. But, they chose life. They went against the usual Hollywood antics and chose to give their baby life.
In all of these instances, these women are to be commended. These are true feminists in my eyes. Women who bravely do the right thing, even if they receive 'backlash' or are attacked for their choice. Praise God for life and praise the Lord for amazing Mothers!

I'm Back... with good things to come to those who wait!
As you can see from my last post, I am back and ready to riot... well, at least rattle the blogosphere the best that I can.
Many things have happened over the past few months which I assure you, you will hear about all of that in due time. There is just far too much for me to report on in simply one post. But, if you know anything about my life, you know that my life never seems to go down the easy/simple route. This means that my life is complex; frustrating, while also very entertaining. My life is an abyss of drama, joy, crazy stories, fun, and sometimes even riots. Well, not literal riots, usually; but, more of a "political discourse" kind of riots. Also, if you know anything about me or have read my blog, you will know that I currently straddle the "line" of two countries. I am currently living between America and Ireland; which means that there is a whole series of Irish-American drama and debates to share with you.
With all of that being said, i am currently working on the following posts, that I will post sometime in the next few days:

I'm Bringin' Blogging Back
"I'm bringin' sexy back..." are the famous words from the Justin Timberlake tune of the same name. The song is catchy, yes. But, it confuses me, mostly because I didn't know "sexy" was gone nor do I know where "sexy" is coming back from. Hmm.
Well, in the same way, my "blog" is coming back, but I don't exactly where it went or where it's coming back from. In all actuality, this blog was never really gone, but rather the "blogger" in residence was on hiatus.
As most of you know, I have been in Dublin, pursuing my Master's degree in Public Affairs and Political Communications in Dublin, Ireland. I have had an intense and challenging year, but it has not been without its blessings. My year was filled with both "ups and downs" and good and bad, but overall, this experience has trained me in the art of political communications and I feel that I am now best suited to serve the blogosphere community.
I'm back and ready to bring you some great reading material, interesting videos, some hilarious banter, a bit of ridiculous-ness, and maybe even a few guest blogs from some very interesting sources. So, hold on to your hats... this ruckus is back in action.
For some time now, I have been trying to work my way back into the blogosphere and find the best way to bring back my blog. I used my Twitter account as a way to 'ease' myself back into social media and from the feedback I've received regarding my Twitter account, I may be back better than ever!
I assure you that I will strive to bring you some interesting news, entertainment, and commentary. I also love to laugh, so I will be sure to add some hilarious antics throughout my posts, which may or may not be funny to you at all.
Please let me know what you think and feel free to send me anything that you think might be of interest.
