A Sexual Revolution, Amidst a Sexual Culture

Contrary to popular belief, a recent study found that the majority of American young people want to remain virgins until marriage.

A recent study, which was released just prior to Valentine's Day, showed that sixty one percent of America’s youth said they would like to save sex until marriage. The 91-page study by OneHope also included information about the teenage respondent's beliefs, values and spirituality.

Other interesting findings in the study include:
82 percent believe God intended marriage to last a lifetime
50 percent consider an unmarried man and woman a family
59 percent said the Bible has little/no influence on their thoughts and actions
62 percent believe truth is relative
57 percent believe being good people and doing good deeds will get you into heaven
69 percent watch MTV on a weekly basis

These are really interesting findings, as young people are constantly portrayed as the opposite in movies and on television. For instance, according to "Jersey Shore", young people sleep around, have no self-respect, and they are oozing of STD's. Teens are also encouraged to live this sort of lifestyle when celebrities are pushing condoms and singing songs about being promiscuous ("Promiscuous Girl" by Nelly Furtado, "Tonight (I'm F**kin' You)" by Enrique Iglesias, etc.). But, these findings illuminate the fact that this generation is smart and independent.

This generation is strong, confident, and unwilling to be a mere instrument of culture. Young people are becoming more aware of who they are and are becoming strong leaders, who are paving the way for future generations. This is study is a glimmer of hope, in an often dark world.
